Traditionally, approaches to assessing disabled people’s eligibility for services have been medically based. Transport for London espouses a social model approach to disability and wanted to revise its application and assessment processes for its door-to-door services.
This was a significant and far-reaching change to their existing policies and Future Inclusion was asked to develop viable options.
Future Inclusion developed three social model-based options robustly based on a review of the literature as well as research amongst disabled Londoners. We also developed a costing model to help Transport for London assess and compare the three options.
Senior management were able to make an informed decision based on objective information, with three workable models of how the door-to-door services could operate in future.
